SUMMARY:Workshop on Open Source key areas for Digital Autonomy
DESCRIPTION:Three Directorate-Generals from the European Commission (Connect\, DIGIT and GROW) are joining forces to organize a physical event in Brussels to discuss Open Source in four key areas for Digital Autonomy. \nThe study on the impact of Open Source in the EU economy  confirmed the relevance of this subject. The twelve workshops organized in December 2022 by the European Commission have served to pave the way to relevant political initiatives. This time\, the Commission is focusing on the areas that are prone to be the most relevant for Open Source. \nThe first area is Cybersecurity and trustworthiness of ICT systems\, which is of crucial importance in today’s Digital Europe. The second session will elaborate the transformation of the automotive design towards a connected\, carbon-neutral and customer-centric transport with the Software-defined vehicle(SDV). The third panel will analyze how to be successful and manage the challenges in implementing open source projects and solutions in European public services. The final session will develop how to provide and use as much as possible Open Source for developing Data Spaces. \nWorkshops will benefit from the viewpoints of panelists recognized as experts in the workshop topic. \n\n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:The ETSI Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference – Status\, Implementation and Way Forward of AI Standardization\, will take place face-to-face on 5-7 February 2024 in ETSI\, Sophia Antipolis\, France. \nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning (AI/ML) technology has made major advancements in recent years and is becoming a key enabler for new disruptive features and applications in any digital product. \nThis face-to-face event will offer attendees the unique opportunity to come together to exchange with experts\, network with peers\, visit the demos and posters around the subject of Machine Learning with a specific focus on Information and Communications Technology (ICT). \nAI/ML will fundamentally shift the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry\, as technologies such as Natural Language Processing\, Deep Learning\, and others will enhance the performance of communications\, applications\, content\, and digital commerce. \nArtificial Intelligence / Machine Learning are already part of the networks and services\, and are present across multiple sectors such as finance\, manufacturing\, medical\, telecommunications and transportation. AI Chatbots and AI voice assistants are widely deployed in society. Still this field is quickly evolving and the event will provide an opportunity for experts to have insights into the latest developments. \nEurope and other regions are drafting policy and legislation which will impact the deployment of artificial intelligence. In the context of the draft AI Act\, the EU puts forward objectives including: \n\n“ensure that AI systems placed on the Union market and used are safe and respect existing law on fundamental rights and Union values”;\n“facilitate the development of a single market for lawful\, safe and trustworthy AI applications and prevent market fragmentation”.\n\nAttendees will learn about the latest status and will have the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts in this field. \nThe event will present the regulations in the different regions of the world and will provide the opportunity to get involved in standardization that will play an important role in the context of European and global regulation. It will also discuss corresponding new market access requirements\, conformity assessment\, etc. Additionally\, the event will be an opportunity for research organizations (academia and industrial research) to discuss new trends and features in the field of AI. \nThe conference will build on available work in the domain of AI. ETSI’s experts will present published and ongoing work on cybersecurity\, testing of AI\, trustworthy AI\, sustainable AI\, applications of AI for verticals and many more. \nDemonstrations and Posters on the latest advances in the field of AI/ML applied to ICT systems and applications will complement the conference programme: \n\nThe Programme Committee is currently calling for demonstrations and posters’ proposals. The list of topics of interest and submission process are detailed in the Call for Demos and Posters tab.\n\n\nThe detailed event’s programme including the conference agenda\, list of demos and posters will be available in November. Participation to the event is open to all and free of charge upon registration.

SUMMARY:OFE Lounge 2024: Standardisation and Open Source in the Age of Software Regulation
DESCRIPTION:This webinar series is organised under the umbrella of StandICT.eu 2026. \n \nThe OFE Lounge 2024 seeks to bridge standardisation and open source organisations\, creating a platform to discuss the changing dynamics of software development and ICT standardisation. Drawing from previous iterations of the OFE Lounge Series\, as well as studies such as the JRC’s “The Relationship Between Open Source Software and Standard Setting” and OFE’s study “Standardisation and Open Source – Bringing them together” for the European Commission\, this series aims to facilitate knowledge transfer between significant open source and standardisation entities\, as well as the European Commission. For this iteration of the series\, we will focus on the standardisation activities following new EU regulation with implications for software development\, such as the Cyber Resilience Act\, the New Product Liability Directive and the AI Act. \nAll sessions will adhere to the Chatham House Rule.
