SUMMARY:The next computing paradigm: Where the computing continuum and AI meet the physical world
DESCRIPTION:HiPEAC Vision\, a Blueprint for European Survival \nThe European Union’s ambitious drive for technological sovereignty is entering a critical second phase. With the original Chips Act having successfully mobilised capital (total commitments reached nearly €69 billion)\, the subsequent phase\, Chips Act 2.0\, must fundamentally shift focus from chips supply to securing the next generation of computing architecture and talent. \nThis dimension is explored by the HiPEAC Vision 2025\, a roadmap arguing that Europe’s future relevance depends not merely on manufacturing silicon wafers\, but on mastering the distributed\, sustainable computing paradigm that Artificial Intelligence (AI) now demands. \nThe vision has created the concept of the Next Computing Paradigm (NCP). The NCP represents a crucial convergence of the computing continuum\, spanning high-performance exascale computing\, cloud data centers\, and embedded devices\, redefining how systems interact. HiPEAC views this shift as a dynamic collection of “federated and distributed AI services” that operate across this continuum. \nTo find out more about the HiPEAC Vision 2025\, join the webinar on 12th December. \nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:Regional Workshop – Standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystems
DESCRIPTION:Regional Workshop – Standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystems\nAs Cloud\, Edge and IoT technologies continue to mature\, the need for interoperability\, common architectures and internationally aligned standards is becoming increasingly important. From digital twins and data spaces to distributed computing infrastructures\, standards play a critical role in ensuring that innovative solutions can scale beyond individual projects and ecosystems. \nAgainst this backdrop\, CEI-Sphere is organising the workshop “Standards for Cloud-Edge-IoT Ecosystems”\, taking place on 23 June 2026 in Paris\, as part of the INSTAR Final Event and alongside the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41 plenary on Internet of Things and Digital Twins. \nThe workshop will bring together experts from standardisation bodies\, European research and innovation projects\, industry and policy organisations to discuss how emerging Cloud-Edge-IoT ecosystems are influencing standardisation activities and how standards\, in turn\, can accelerate innovation\, interoperability and market adoption. \nParticular attention will be given to three interconnected domains: \n\nDigital Twins\, and their growing impact on industrial and sectoral ecosystems;\nCloud-Edge-IoT architectures\, including approaches developed within Europe’s Large-Scale Pilots and the role of reusable digital assets;\nData Spaces\, digital sovereignty and federated ecosystems\, where standards and open-source building blocks increasingly need to evolve together.\n\nThe workshop will also showcase several European initiatives contributing to these discussions\, including CEI-Sphere\, O-CEI\, COP-PILOT\, LICORICE\, and the INSTAR project\, providing concrete examples of how research and innovation activities can support the development of interoperable and globally relevant standards. \nA dedicated session will explore the Hourglass Model\, developed within CEI-Sphere\, and its role in helping stakeholders understand the relationships between capabilities\, standards\, open-source building blocks and ecosystem actors across the Cloud-Edge-IoT continuum. \nThe event will feature contributions from representatives of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 41\, the European Commission\, industry organisations\, research centres and standardisation experts working across Europe and internationally. \nA remote connection will be available in listening mode for participants unable to attend in person. The link will be shared here soon!  \nMore information HERE.
