SUMMARY:The next computing paradigm: Where the computing continuum and AI meet the physical world
DESCRIPTION:HiPEAC Vision\, a Blueprint for European Survival \nThe European Union’s ambitious drive for technological sovereignty is entering a critical second phase. With the original Chips Act having successfully mobilised capital (total commitments reached nearly €69 billion)\, the subsequent phase\, Chips Act 2.0\, must fundamentally shift focus from chips supply to securing the next generation of computing architecture and talent. \nThis dimension is explored by the HiPEAC Vision 2025\, a roadmap arguing that Europe’s future relevance depends not merely on manufacturing silicon wafers\, but on mastering the distributed\, sustainable computing paradigm that Artificial Intelligence (AI) now demands. \nThe vision has created the concept of the Next Computing Paradigm (NCP). The NCP represents a crucial convergence of the computing continuum\, spanning high-performance exascale computing\, cloud data centers\, and embedded devices\, redefining how systems interact. HiPEAC views this shift as a dynamic collection of “federated and distributed AI services” that operate across this continuum. \nTo find out more about the HiPEAC Vision 2025\, join the webinar on 12th December. \nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:CEC Workshop 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Cloud-Edge Continuum is a new hyper-distributed computing paradigm that aims at seamlessly interconnecting and abstracting the computing power and storage capacity of the Cloud with the data processing capabilities of edge devices\, IoT devices\, and sensors. Intelligently balancing tasks in a continuum enables faster response times\, lower latency\, and more efficient use of network bandwidth. However\, efficiently managing extremely heterogeneous Cloud and Edge resources is a pressing concern in real-world large-scale implementations. Such heterogeneity refers to differences in network capabilities\, processing power\, software stack\, APIs\, and security protocols across the Cloud-Edge Continuum infrastructure. This raises significant challenges for the network community to develop new and efficient protocols and communication services. Given the potential benefits of the Cloud-Edge Continuum\, it is important to explore the current state-of-the-art research and identify the challenges and opportunities in this area. \nThe Cloud-Edge Continuum (CEC) workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss the latest research\, trends\, and challenges in ecosystems and environments based on Cloud-Edge Continuum paradigm. The primary goal of this workshop is to foster collaboration and exchange of ideas among researchers and stakeholders. The workshop can provide a platform for participants to share their experiences\, best practices\, case studies\, and to identify emerging research areas and potential solutions to existing challenges. By bringing together experts from different domains\, the CEC workshop also aims to provide insights into how Cloud-Edge Continuum can be applied in various fields\, such as healthcare\, transportation\, smart cities\, and manufacturing. \nFurthermore\, South Korea recently became an associate member of the Horizon Europe programme. Through the support of multiple European and Korean partners\, the CEC workshop will serve as a platform to raise awareness and disseminate information among Korean academics and researchers about the Horizon Europe framework\, its opportunities\, and pathways for active participation in funded research projects.

SUMMARY:EU – Canada alignment on digital credentials\, identity and trust services |The road towards compatible and secure tools
DESCRIPTION:Canada and the EU have been developing comprehensive strategies on digital identity management\, digital credentials and trust services. Digital identification solutions can provide safe and efficient access to public and private services such as healthcare\, finance\, and e-government platforms. In this respect\, human-centric digital identity and digital credentials are a priority area of cooperation. Canada and the EU should continue working towards the interoperability of their trust services\, which are key enablers for public administrations\, business transactions and e-commerce. \nCanada is currently standing up new platforms to enable a single point of access for users to sign in to government services\, and for issuing and verifying digital credentials\, including exploring interoperability of digital credentials across jurisdictions\, leveraging global standards. In the EU\, the Electronic Identification\, Authentication and Trust Services (eIDAS) regulation provides a standardised framework for secure digital identification across member states\, offering a cross-border\, interoperable system that could serve as a model for Canada’s efforts. \nTo further strengthen compatible solutions\, this webinar seeks to promote bilateral cooperation\, share best practices\, and explore how regulatory provisions can be reinforced through the creation of harmonised standards under the Canada – European Union Digital Partnership. \nThe main goal of this Expert Workshop is to bring together representatives of different stakeholders from government\, industry\, academia\, and other relevant institutions to identify and discuss relevant use cases and provide recommendations for a possible follow-up. Proposals for concrete actions shall be agreed upon to boost the cooperation in this important topic\, reinforcing peer learning and sharing of knowledge. \n \n TO LEARN MORE AND REGISTER\, CLICK HERE!

SUMMARY:Workshop on Digital ID management and data governance through emerging edge computing and DLT solutions
DESCRIPTION:Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence\, edge computing and blockchain have propelled European industries and societies into a new era of an AI-driven Age\, which is transforming everything and changing it right now\, in real time.  These converging technologies are reshaping the industrial fabric of our world\, enabling swift adaptation of individual sectors due economic and climate challenges\, and in essence demanding cross-sector cooperation in order to drive a competitive and sustainable transition of key sectors like mobility\, buildings or energy. \nEnergy systems are becoming increasingly decentralised\, driven by the rise in renewable energy sources and electrical assets. Flexible assets such as electric vehicles\, heat pumps\, solar panels\, residential batteries etc.\, will link the energy sector to mobility and living to benefit from affordable green electricity and reduce its carbon footprint. At the core of the AI-driven age\, secure and trusted methods will be required to safely integrate energy flows across different sectors and allow different energy assets to interact with the grid in a trusted manner. \nThe objective of the workshop is to address trusted and seamless data exchange across different sectors and explore aspects like ID management\, distributed ledger\, digital wallet\, SSI and edge computing for key applications that are piloted through the pilot project O_CEI\,  like smart building\, Ev charging\, etc… Core of the discussion will be to identify key enablers for a secure approach that enables identity-related information to be safely verified and exchanged between different parties\, extending from current industrial initiatives for building a mature technology base to piloting IoT platforms and decentralised intelligence applications. In this context\, it seems promising to explore the role Blockchain and other Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT; like Ethereum\, IOTA\, Hyperledger and others) could play in underpinning such systems of fully or at least largely decentralised identification. \nThe EU-funded O-CEI project will pilot cutting-edge solutions to drive cross-domain standards for flexible energy solutions by orchestrating cross-domain data sharing\, minimising energy footprint\,  and promoting open standards for virtualisation and interoperability. It targets the adoption of edge paradigms and technologies in real-world environments in areas like electromobility\, software-defined vehicles\, logistics\, smart agriculture and agri-food\, smart urban environments and multiple electricity grids management. \nThe focus of the workshop should be on related application scenarios across sectors \, the underlying ID and data governance and its potential use of distributed ledge technologies  – with an unwavering commitment to preserve people’s sovereignty. \n\nTO LEARN MORE AND REGISTER\, CLICK HERE!
