SUMMARY:ColonyOS\, a Meta Operating System - Webinar by Dr. Johan Kristiansson\, RISE
DESCRIPTION:ColonyOS is a Meta-Operating System developed by RISE\, designed to simplify and streamline utilization of heterogeneous computing infrastructures\, including IoT\, edge\, cloud\, and HPC. It is designed to operate as an overlay to interface with a wide variety of computing environments\, enabling seamless integration and operation across different platforms. \nIn ColonyOS\, each service runs independently within its designated environment or grid\, known as a colony. These colonies are provisioned with precisely the resources they need\, and communication is confined within the colony\, adhering to a strict zero-trust security protocol. Services in ColonyOS is composed of so-called executors that integrate with various underlying platforms based on a distributed microservice architecture. This enables creation of so-called compute continuums. \nSelf-sovereignty and decentralization are foundational principles of ColonyOS. In self-sovereign systems\, trust is established through transparent and secure mechanisms rather than through a centralized entity. This ensures that control and autonomy are in the hands of the users. ColonyOS supports standard HTTP\, but also P2P communication to establish a decentralized network of colonies accessible anywhere on the Internet\, forming a pervasive cloud. \nToday\, ColonyOS is used commercially by RockSigma AB in a processing engine running on Kubernetes to analyze seismic events in one of the world’s largest underground mines. Plans are underway to integrate with Eclipse Arrowhead\, which will further enhance Arrowhead’s functionality throughout the Edge2Cloud continuum. ColonyOS is also used by ENCCS to make it easier to use EuroHPC systems. During the presentation\, Johan will demonstrate how to run a cross-platform workflow on a Kubernetes cluster running on the RISE ICE Datacenter\, combined with two EuroHPC supercomputers (LUMI and Leonardo). Additionally\, Johan will demonstrate Pollinator\, a tool built on ColonyOS designed to make ML training  on HPC/Cloud as straightforward as using on a local computer. \nSpeaker:\nDr. Johan Kristiansson*\,\nSenior Researcher at RISE \n\n* Dr. Johan Kristiansson is Senior Researcher at RISE and has over 20 years of experience in distributed systems\, software engineering\, and machine learning.  Previously\, as the CTO of RockSigma AB\, Johan led the development of a Kubernetes-based compute engine for seismic activity prediction. At Mobilaris AB\, he created a machine-learning based navigator similar to Google Maps\, but for underground mines. As a Principal Researcher at Ericsson AB\, Johan was at the forefront of many R&D initiatives and an early adopter of several groundbreaking technologies\, including software containers\, microservices and blockchains. Johan holds an M.Sc. in Computing Science and Engineering from Umeå University and a PhD in Media Technology from Luleå University of Technology. \nRegister now!

SUMMARY:ENHANCE workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is part of a three day segment in HiPEAC 2024 with a spotlight on bridging between contributing communities to future large-scale safety-critical systems (also known as CPS). Comprising FORECAST\, STEADINESS & ENHANCE\, the Segment overview is described above in the ‘Programs’ tab.\nENHANCE encourages participation from enabling technology communities including IoT\, AI and Big Data. Product-side and market influencers\, such as from product-lines and policy making\, are also invited to participate. \nWorkshop Focus & Topics of Interest\nCyber-physical systems (CPS) have been adopted in many industrial sectors thanks to development of several new enabling technologies both on software and hardware side. Examples of topics that play a key role in advancing CPS are: Artificial Intelligence\, model-driven software engineering\, formal modeling and verification\, wireless communication\, novel embedded and Edge controllers. These technologies are evolving at a fast pace. At the same time\, dependability is a “must have” requirement for the entire CPS life cycle. However\, as CPS become more prominent across the globe and increasingly depend on the interplay between the Edge and the Cloud\, building trustworthy CPS and managing the complexity of their hierarchies of systems is probably more challenging than ever before. \nThe workshop seeks submissions for presentations describing practical and theoretical approaches and solutions to advance the design and implementation of trustworthy CPS spanning the Cloud-Edge-IoT continuum or parts thereof. In particular\, presentations covering the following topics (but not limited to) are welcome: \n\nIoT\, IIoT and dependability: IoT systems are a class of systems that use the Internet as the backbone technology.\n\nIn this topic\, presentations related to bridging best of security research and IoT and IIoT are encouraged\, Ex: Authentication and Authorization in IoT.\nThe Time-Sensitive Networking task group of the IEEE 802.1 working group is adding new capabilities\, especially bridging wired and wireless devices. Presentations related to this topic and its impact on dependability are encouraged.\n\n\nSoftware Engineering methods for dependable CPS: the amount of software in CPS is growing and the key factor defining its functionality.\n\nIn this topic\, presentations related to reducing the software engineering effort while at the same time ensuring quality for dependable CPS are encouraged.\nHowever\, treating the software in isolation would be short sighted. Therefore model driven approaches addressing cross domain concerns of CPS are as well encouraged.\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence and dependability: AI and CPS now go hand in hand. One cannot exist without the other.\n\nIn this topic\, presentations related to explainability and dependability analysis of AI and ML-based algorithms in the area of CPS will be considered.\nAnother topic of special interest is distributed/swarm intelligence. Flexibility requirements have become key to CPS in Industry 4.0 context and presentations related to learning the behavior and adapting to flexible factories\, based on ML based agents are encouraged.\n\n\nSystem of Systems: SoS are now considered a fundamental building block of CPS for advancing future safety-critical systems.\n\nTopics helping bridge the SoS community to other contributing communities are encouraged. Including cross-disciplinary focuses such as safety-security-performance integrations.\n\n\nBig Data and dependability: Data is now available in abundance\, for example traces of system operation at all times.\n\nTopics related to use of big data to construct models for use in dependability analysis are encouraged. Process mining is one such example\, which can be used to link model-based process analysis and data-oriented analysis techniques.\n\n\n\nClick here to learn more.
